Candidates will work closely with all other areas within the Product Control department, liasing with the trading desk, risk management and other areas within Finance.
Responsibilities can include
Daily production of Structured and Flow P&L books which will include daily communication with the trader, explanation of P&L movements to management, profit attribution analysis, detailed knowledge of exotic products and responsibility of position reconciliations and exception reports.
Participation in desk level activities, including preparing the daily Equity Derivative business level revenues and commentary.
Understand the Price Verification process and its impact on the P&L.
Reviewing new trades, understanding the structure, associated risks and the P&L generated on them.
Ensure adequate Balance Sheet and P&L controls exist and are monitored daily.
Ad hoc projects that arise relating to further streamlining (or retirement) of existing systems or assisting in the implement in the introduction of new systems.
Management responsibility, although this may not be in the early stage of the role.
Educational and Professional Qualifications
Minimum of 2:1 Honours degree or equivalent
At least 24 points at A-Level Ideally As in numeric subject (Maths/ Further Maths)
Qualified Accountant (not essential) If Qualified, 1st time passes required
Industry/Job Knowledge and Specialist Skills
Good understanding of Investment Banking
Detailed knowledge of Derivative Products essential
Relevant Experience in a Derivatives Product Control capacity, or in a relevant role that is product and accounting focussed e.g. Risk Management, Price Verification, Derivatives Audit
For Senior, 3-4 years Derivative Product Control or similar experience e.g. Auditing Bulge Bracket Financial Institutions for the FSA.
At AVP level, minimum of 2 years supervisory and management experience, and 4 years experience including non-supervisory role in a Product Control Capacity
Ability to interpret financial information
Ability to negotiate and strong people skills
Ability to put knowledge of financial principle into P&L and Profit Attribution analysis.
Able to perform effectively within a time pressurised environment.
Other Skills Required
A high calibre individual with strong communication skills, both written and oral. Attention to detail and the ability to meet reporting and project deadlines.
Someone who can hit the ground running, and can operate at a senior level with minimal training.
At AVP level, candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership abilities and decision making skills.
Self starter who proactively seeks to improve existing controls and streamline processes both from a tactical short term viewpoint, and also from a strategic long term perspective, and implement these initiatives to completion.
Good interpersonal skills in being able to deal with a range of senior/junior staff across a number of disciplines.
Strong PC skills in Excel, Word, and Access. Training will be provided on other proprietary systems used within this position.
